Chatyour launched one week ago and is already growing. Head to the Download page to grab the client and start chatting. Check the Server Status and Message of the Day for the latest.
The Past Week
Chatyour has been online for one week now. While you have been chatting, we have been hard at work behind the scenes — both the client and the server have received many updates, and we are only getting started.
Chatyour is still at its beginning stages, and lots more is planned for it.
Updates Over the Past Week
Since launch, we have been releasing regular updates to both the client and the server:
Server-authoritative protocol — The client now relies on the server for every message, list, and state change, eliminating stale or ghost data and making the whole service more consistent.
Instant reconnect — If the connection drops, Chatyour logs you back in automatically and returns you to the room you were in.
Feedback system — Press F3 at any time to send feedback directly to the developers from inside the client.
Security questions & password recovery — Set a security question and reset your own password from the login screen, or change your password anytime from Manage My Account.
Music everywhere — Menu music on the dashboard, plus in-room music requests that the whole room can play along to.
Chat commands & spam protection — Slash commands such as /help and /me, with optional server-side spam protection.
Auto-login & server stats — Save your credentials for instant login, and check server uptime and latency with F1 and F2.
Admin improvements — Account deletion and password reset for administrators and developers, plus AFK status in room user lists.
Bug fixes — Fixed crashes and edge cases found in daily use, including a bug in the automatic updater and a room-leaving crash.
This is only the beginning. Chatyour is still in its early stages, and lots more is planned for the future.
What is Chatyour?
Chatyour is a real-time chat application designed from the ground up with accessibility as its core principle. It provides a seamless chat experience for blind and visually impaired users through deep screen reader integration, keyboard-driven navigation, and audio feedback.
Unlike mainstream chat platforms that often treat accessibility as an afterthought, Chatyour is built around it — every feature, every interaction is designed to work effortlessly with screen readers and text-to-speech software.
Why Chatyour?
Built for blind users, by people who understand accessibility. Chatyour integrates with accessible_output2 for instant speech feedback, so you never need to look at the screen to know what's happening.
Full screen reader support — All UI elements are properly labelled and announced.
Text-to-speech feedback — Messages, status updates, and alerts are spoken aloud automatically.
Keyboard-first navigation — Every action has a keyboard shortcut. No mouse required.
Automatic reconnection — If the connection drops, Chatyour reconnects in the background without losing your place.
Persistent chat rooms — Rooms can be saved and restored, so conversations are never lost.
Admin tools — Full moderation controls including bans, role management, and server announcements.
How It Helps
For blind and visually impaired individuals, most chat platforms present significant barriers — inaccessible interfaces, poorly labelled controls, and features that require visual interaction. Chatyour eliminates these barriers entirely:
Log in, navigate rooms, send messages, and manage your account all without ever looking at the screen.
Real-time speech alerts keep you informed of new messages, room changes, and server events.
The interface is streamlined and consistent, reducing cognitive load and learning curve.
Automatic reconnection means you stay in the conversation even with an unstable internet connection.
